Overview

Summertime means warmer weather, which can also mean insects like mosquitos, fleas, and ticks, tend to be more abundant. More insects mean the potential for increased exposure to bug bites.  Bug bites are never fun, and they are not something you want to deal with when you are pregnant.  Insects like mosquitos, fleas, and ticks are bothersome, but worse, they can carry diseases.  Some of the illnesses these pests can spread include Zika, malaria, Lyme disease, and West Nile virus.  No one wants to encounter these diseases, especially when pregnant, because they can be a serious risk to you and your baby.  The big question is, do you need to worry about bug bites during pregnancy?  The short answer is no, you shouldn’t worry, but you should be aware of the risks of bug bites during pregnancy, how to treat bites, and how to safely limit your exposure and mitigate the risks to you and your baby.
