Episode 120 Content and Overview

The postpartum period is often referred to as the 4th trimester. You can think of it as the first 3 months after your baby is born, although for many new mothers the postpartum period lasts much longer. Your baby is making the transition from being inside your belly to being out in the world, which is a huge adjustment. You are healing, and navigating how to take care of yourself, and a little human, also a big transition from being pregnant, and an even bigger transition from pre-pregnancy. Planning ahead is going to be key in setting you up for an ideal postpartum period. Don’t wait until your baby arrives to think about this stuff. A little preparation can go a long way.

    • Hydroflask water bottle
      • Hands down the best water bottles, I am obsessed and take mine everywhere. It keeps water cold for almost 24 hours. Not the cheapest but a worthwhile investment and something that helps me stay hydrated.
    • Super soft bath robe
      • This robe is so inexpensive and is super soft and perfect for cuddling a baby. A must have for your postpartum recovery and awesome to relax in.
    • Organic Mother’s Milk Tea
      • I prefer this tea with a little bit of honey. This is delicious and is made with organic herbs to support breastfeeding. This is also great to make ahead and pour over ice if the weather is warm.
    • The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding
      • The best resource for everything breastfeeding. I read this from cover to cover for the second time before my daughter was born and I refer to it often for everything breastfeeding related.
    • Bamboobies nursing pads
      • Leaking is no fun but I love these washable nursing pads, they are super soft and comfy.  In the beggining there is a lot of leaking and I found it easier to use disposable pads in the first few weeks. The disposable pads I recommend are Avent Disposable Nursing Pads
    • Snuggle Me Co-Sleeper/Infant Lounger (aka the magic pillow)
      • This isn’t really called a magic pillow, that is just what my husband and I call it because it works like magic to calm a fussy baby and get them to sleep. We used this with our son and are now using it with our daughter and I love it.
    • Zahler Prenatal Vitamin +DHA
      • I know “prenatal” means when you are pregnant but you should continue to take a prenatal vitamin after your baby is born in your postpartum period and throughout breastfeeding.  Zahler makes a high quality prenatal vitamin that has the active form of folate plus omega 3s and DHA. This is my favorite prenatal vitamin, the one I take everyday and the one I recommend to all expecting moms. Zahler is offering an exclusive discount to listeners of the Pregnancy Podcast.
