    Question

“Thank you so much for the pregnancy podcast, I feel so informed as I make my way through my first pregnancy and I have you to thank for a lot of that! One thing that I’ve been curious about lately is the safety of cleaning supplies while I am pregnant. My husband has been doing a lot of the cleaning since I have been feeling sick, but now that I’m in my second trimester and feeling better, I would really like to give our house a thorough deep clean, but want to make sure I am using safe products. Any advice or resources would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!” – Nikki

Cleaning products can contain harmful chemicals and your pregnancy is an excellent time to get safer products in your home. Any chemicals you are exposed to when you are pregnant potentially exposes your baby to them. There are no current regulations requiring manufacturers to fully list all of their ingredients. Generic terms like “fragrance” can mask all kinds of compounds, some of which have been linked to serious health impacts. Learn what chemicals you should be avoiding, how to shop for safe cleaning products, and tips for safer cleaning during your pregnancy.
