Overview

Pasmo is a Spanish word that doesn’t have an English equivalent. It describes the reversal of labor once it has started. During labor and birth oxytocin, the love hormone, is the driving force of your contractions. Other hormones, like beta-endorphins and catecholamines counteract oxytocin to slow down labor. When this works like it is supposed to this balancing act keeps your labor at a pace where you are able to experience the positive effects and relief from beta-endorphins and at a pace where your body can handle the stress. In cases where levels of these stress hormones are too high labor can slow down, stop, and even reverse. This episode covers the reasons your labor can slow down, stop, or reverse and the steps you can take when planning your birth to promote your labor progressing.
